Will WhatsApp work with a travel eSIM?

Yes. WhatsApp can use the mobile data from a travel eSIM while your WhatsApp account normally remains registered to its existing phone number. A data-only eSIM does not automatically change your WhatsApp number.

WhatsApp uses internet data

Messages, voice notes and calls use an internet connection. The connection can come from Wi-Fi or from a travel eSIM, even if the travel eSIM has no phone number for calls or SMS.

Keep your existing WhatsApp number

Adding a travel eSIM does not require changing the number registered to WhatsApp. Avoid using the Change Number feature unless you intentionally want to move the account.

Media and calls use more data
