Travel eSIM on iPhone: the settings that matter

Check eSIM support and carrier lock first

Do not rely only on the model name. Device variants sold in different markets can differ, and a carrier lock can prevent another eSIM from being added.

Label the travel line clearly

Names such as “Travel” and “Primary” make the data-line settings much easier to understand after landing.

Select the travel eSIM for cellular data

Keep your normal number active only if you want it, and review any automatic cellular-data switching option so the phone does not unexpectedly use the home line for data.

Follow the plan's roaming instruction

Travel eSIMs frequently connect through roaming partners, so data roaming may need to be enabled on the travel line. Leave roaming on the home line disabled if you want to avoid home-carrier data roaming.
